The unit is rensposible for all the research and development of clean and emerging tehcnologies for the processing of palm oil and for the extraction of minor componants from palm oil and its products. These technologies includes membrane filtration technology for the recovery of minor compenents from palm biodiesel, short path distillation for the production of carotenes/vitamin E concentrates, supercritical fluid technology for the extraction of palm phytonutrients and nano-encapsulation of palm vitamin E and carotenes concentrates for nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications.

The unit also has been actively involved in NKEA programmers under Entry Point Project No.4  which has set the target for increasing milling efficiency in the palm oil by the year 2020.
